PURPOSE:To provide a fibrous molding for a fiber-reinforced composite metallic material having an excellent mechanical characteristic by using metallic powder having fine grain sizes as a binder for the fiber molding of reinforcing fibers so that the impregnation of the molten metal to the fiber molding is remarkably satisfactorily and thoroughly accomplished. CONSTITUTION:Reinforcing fibers such as alumina fibers are molded by using metallic powder having <=20mum, more particularly preferably about <=10mum grain size as a binder and the molding is calcined, by which a fiber molding is obtd. The metallic powder which is of the same kind as the metallic base to be filled and compounded or consists essentially of the essential components of said metallic base is preferably used as the abovementioned metallic powder. The above-mentioned fiber molding is filled and compounded into and with the prescribed point in the metallic base by a pressure casting method consisting in putting said fiber molding into dies, pouring a molten metal into the dies and pressurizing the molding under hydrostatic high pressure via a plunger, etc. The fiber reinforced composite metallic material having the excellent mechanical characteristic such as strength, toughness or the like is obtd.
