Prodn. of finely-divided adsorbent material, consisting largely of Fe(OH)3, useful for purificn. of gases contg. S cpds. or cyanides comprises: (i) neutralising by lime at an acidity of 6-9 deg. Soerensen a residual acid soln. from the pickling and dedusting of steel in presence of aq. HCl; (ii) sepg. by decantation and filtration the ferrous suspension obtd.; and (iii) oxidn. of the filter cake by air.
