PURPOSE:To reduce the contact between a blank pipe and a roll caused by the warp of the front end of blank pipe and to reduce the generation of the outer surface flaw and seizure of pipe by arranging a pipe guide for controlling the transporting direction of pipe at the front of each stand. CONSTITUTION:A blank pipe 3 heated uniformly at high temperatures is transported to the mill center line of a drawing mill consisting of plural stands 4, 4... through an inclined skid, a kicker, and a conveyor, etc. Thereafter, the pipe 3 is transported in its axial direction at approximately the same peripheral speeds of rolls 4A, and its outer diameter is gradually drawn from the 1st stand to the final one in sequence, and is finished into a product size. A pipe guide 5 consisting of holding fixtures 2, 2... having each bolt holes bored previously in it is attached to the case of each of the stands 4, 4... to make the distance between the guide 5 and the rolls 4A extremely small. Therefore, the pipe 3 after passing through the guides 5 is surely directed to the central part of roll calibers. |
