PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion and wear resistances of cast iron and to make the cast iron suitable for use as the material of a cylinder liner by specifying the P and Cr contents of the cast iron, dispersing uniformly carbides and carbonitrides, adding Cu, and forming an austenite structure. CONSTITUTION:This cast iron has a composition consisting of, by weight, 2.5- 3.5% C, 1.0-2.5% Si, 0.5-2.0% Mn, 0.1-0.8% P, 1.0-5.0% Cr, 13-20% Ni, 4.0-8.0% Cr and the balance essentially Fe or further contg. 0.2-0.6% in total of one or more among 0.1-0.5% V, 0.1-0.5% Ti and 0.2-0.6% Nb. By the composition, the matrix of the cast iron is provided with an austenite structure, and carbides and carbonitrides are precipitated by 2-15% by area in total. Graphite contained in the cast iron is A-form graphite prescribed by A.S.T.M. The cast iron has superior scuffing resistance as well as superior corrosion and wear resistances.
