PURPOSE:To reduce the cost and power consumption of a solid-state image sensor which detects the voltage difference between a noise voltage and a signal voltage by compressing a smear noise and generating a mean smear noise voltage. CONSTITUTION:A noise charge which is more than twice as large as a noise charge outputted in one horizontal scanning period is outputted by the image sensor 1 during a vertical blanking period and write in memory 3. The smear noise voltage is regenerated through the memory 3 and a D/A converter 4 during the next vertical blanking period at every horizontal scanning. This smear noise voltage is compressed by an amplifier 5 to the smear noise voltage contained in the signal voltage. Then, it is subtracted from the signal of the image sensor 1 by a subtracter 6.
