PURPOSE:To clear a page memory for a short period and to improve printing speed by writing clear data in the whole area under status inhibiting input data by using a clear address counter. CONSTITUTION:When a clear request signal CLRREQ for the page memory 2 is applied from a CPU, an FF11 for holding the clear request is set up synchronously with a clear clock signal CLRCLK, switches an address selector 9 to the output of a clear address counter 10 to turn the clear address counter 10 to counting status, applies a write signal WR to a page memory 2, and then closes a gate G1 to turn all the writing data to clear data. When the clear data are written in the whole area of the page memory 2, the FF11 is reset to end the clear status.
