PURPOSE:To prevent the printing of a punctuation mark or the like on the head of a line by discriminating whether the line feed restoration of a carrier is to be executed before or after the printing of the initial keyed character inputted over a right margin in accordance with the initial keyed character. CONSTITUTION:A control device 2 constituted of a microprocessor controls the operation of a printer 3 in accordance with a signal inputted from a keyboard device 1 and stores and accesses respective kinds of information in/from a storage device 4. When an automatic line feed restoration mode setting key MK mounted on the keyboard device 1 is depressed, the control device 2 detects whether the carrier exceeds the right margin or not every succeeding key input, and if the carrier exceeds the right margin, discriminates whether the key input is a period or not. In case of a period, the control device 2 controls the printer 3 so that line feed restoration is executed after printing the period. When the key input is not a panctuation mark, the input character is printed after line feed restoration.
