MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having an excellent recording/ reproducing characteristic by providing a permalloy film where two layers separated by one nonmagnetic layer have different coercive force between a monmagnetic base and a metallic vertical magnetizing film. CONSTITUTION:The permalloy film 4 is formed to the nonmagnetic base 1 and a Co-Cr vertical magnetizing film is formed on the ''Permalloy'' film. The ''Permalloy'' film 4 is separated into two layers, an upper layer 5a and a lower layer 5b by the nonmagnetic layer 6. The ''Permalloy'' film of the two layer film medium is formed as the two-layer structure and the coercive force of the upper layer 5a closets to the Co-Cr vertical magnetizing film 2 is decreased less than the coercive force of the layer 5b closets to the nonmagnetic base 1. Thus, a reproducing signal having more excellent S/N than that of a conventional two-layer medium is obtained in this way.
