PURPOSE:To reduce the number of candidate characters surely at shortening conversion and to hit an objective word with the small number of times of key operation by defining the key information of a shortening conversion dictionary as at least two characters from the leading part of a ''kana'' string and permitting an access of one character or more. CONSTITUTION:When a ''kana'' character string is inputted, the character string is written in a ''kana'' buffer 41, and when the number of ''kana'' characters is larger than N, the operation is shifted to retrieval to a basic dictionary 7 on the basis of the specification of conversion. When smaller than N, the operation is shifted to retrieval to a shortening conversion dictionary 9. A dictionary control part 8 selects a candidate word from the basic dictionary 7 and displays the selected word. The stem of the word selected as an objective word is stored as a new conversion word in the shortening conversion dictionary memory 9. In case of N characters or more, the stem of work coinciding with the index word of the dictionary memory is retrieved in the memory 9 to select the objective word. If there is no stem of the word, the operation is jumped to the retrieval of the basic dictionary. When the input ''kana'' characters are included within the previously set up number N of index words, the small number of candidate characters can be read out. |
