The drum casing which revolves about its own axis at about 300 rpm drives a shovel grinding roller in its interior, preferably of about 0.6 times the drum diameter, constructed such that it can grind the material to be ground and itself feed it again, and such that after grinding it repeatedly throws the material within the drum casing so high that an air stream flowing along the axis can withdraw a first fine fraction and discharge it through the central middle opening, and that the ground material, thrown high, flies in a wide arc onto the free drum wall and thus arrives in front of the grinding discs, where, because of the grain distribution, the thicker, unmilled grain always breaks first, while the ground fine grain remains on the drum wall and is drawn off and discharged from the slot opening.
