The apparatus has a suction fan and also filter cartridges; in order to be able to clean the filter cartridges better and to achieve a better efficiency, it is proposed that the filter layer of the cartridge has, from radially outward to inward, the following construction: a coarse-mesh wire fabric (8) as the outer support fabric, two fine-mesh, wire fabrics (9,11) of zigzag construction, as a further support fabric between the last, a very fine-mesh wire fabric (10) constructed to follow the interengaging zigzag shapes of the wire fabrics (9,11) as a filter layer, whose wires have a wider cross-section in the direction of the surface spanned by this fabric (10) than in the normal direction. <IMAGE>
