A mowing machine having a machine frame and a mowing unit provided on part of the frame is disclosed. Said mowing unit comprises a multiplicity of mowing members, mounted next to one another on a sliding beam so as to be rotatable about approximately vertical axes and having a crossmember (6), as well as a hood (8) which precedes the mowing members at a distance therefrom and is pivotable upwards about an axis (7) extending approximately parallel to the sliding beam or crossmember (6) and which has a front skirt fastened to it. The mowing unit is pivotable out of a working position, in which the sliding beam is supported on the ground, about a horizontal axis extending in the direction of travel, into a transport position, in which it projects approximately vertically upwards. According to the invention, a locking device (16) is provided for blocking the hood (8) together with the skirt in relation to the crossmember (6) of the mowing members. Said locking device (16) comprises a nose (17) fixed to one part, preferably the hood (8), and a bolt (18) movably mounted on the other part formed by a holding stirrup (6a) connected rigidly to the crossmember (6). Said bolt (18) can be transferred from a blocking position, in which it projects into the pivoting path of the nose (17) and thus prevents the hood (8) together with the skirt from pivoting upwards out of the covering position, into a release position, and vice versa (Fig. 4). <IMAGE>
