<p>PURPOSE:To keep off any accident due to wrong operation, by making an engine key pullable only when a shift lever is set to a parking position, while automatically locking a steering wheel with the engine key pulled out. CONSTITUTION:In a state that an engine key is inserted into a lock 8 and set to a starting position, if a shift lever 26 is set to a drive position, a sliding member 5 is drawn via a bell crank 43 and a cable 16 whereby a hole 5a of the said member 5 is dislocated out of a position of a lock member 4 which is therefore left unmovable. In consequence, the key comes impossible to be pulled out anyway during a car drive. When the lever 26 is set to a parking position, the sliding member 5 is moved to a position where the hole 5a accords with the lock member 4 so that the key comes possible to be pulled out. Likewise, when the key is set to a pullable position, the sliding member 5 is locked by a cam 10, and the lever 26 is locked too. And, when the key is pulled out, a lock pin 3 engages a groove of a steering shaft 2 whereby the said shaft 2 is locked at once.</p> |
