PURPOSE:To recover inexpensively oil from high-viscosity alkali cleaning waste oil with a simple operation, by carrying out heating, standing separation and filtration operations in turn. CONSTITUTION:A high-viscosity alkali cleaning waste oil is fed from a storage tank 2 to a heating tank 3, heated at 90 deg.C (numeral 7 being a heating pipe) and left to stand, whereby the waste oil is separated into three layers of an oil layer, a water layer and a precipitate layer. The precipitate and water are discharged from the bottom of the tank 3. The resulting separated oil as an upper layer is fed to a heating tank 3' and treated in a similar manner as described above. The resulting separated oil is fed to a mixing tank 5. A filter aid such as diatomaceous earth and a dehydrating-decolorizing agent such as activated china clay are added thereto and the mixture is mixed in an agitator 4 and filtered by a filter press 6 to remove the remaining sludge and water and to recover oil.
