PURPOSE:To prevent the corrosion of the vapor-liq. boundary of a metallic electrode plate and to enable long-term continuous operation by forming a film of titanium carbide or turngsten carbide on the boundary with an electric arc. CONSTITUTION:A metallic electrode plate as an object of this invention is a titanium electrode plate, yet this method can be applied to any electrode plate made of a metal having lower potential than titanium carbide or tungsten carbide. A film of titanium carbide or tungsten carbide having about 20-30mum thickness is formed on the vapor-liq. boundary of the metallic electrode plate with an electric arc.
