PURPOSE:To obtain a functional polymer improved in the dispersibility of fine particles such as a dye, pigment, or filler and being excellent in adhesion to metal, fiber, etc., by reacting a polymer having a specified atomic group with a specified compound having an N-containing conjugated heterocyclic ring. CONSTITUTION:A functional polymer is produced by reacting a polymer having at least one atomic group selected from the group consisting of halogen, epoxy, ester, amide, and nitrile (e.g., PVC, polyepichlorohydrin, or polymethyl acrylate) with a compound of the formula [wherein X is O or S, Y1 and Y2 are each an alkali metal and R1 and R2 are each a (substituted) aromatic ring and/or a (subsituted) N-containing conjugated heterocyclic ring]. This functional polymer improves the dispersibility of fine particles such as a dye, pigment, reinforcing agent, filler, or the like and is excellent in adhesion to metal, fiber, plastic, etc., so that it can be used in application fields where these properties are utilized.
