In order to be able to use a very cheap and nevertheless highly suitable high-performance fuel for the operation of fluidised-bed technologies, it is proposed according to the invention to mix bituminous coal with lignite in order to produce a suitable fuel material in this way without ballast materials such as sand or additional ash. The mixing of lignite and bituminous coal such as, for example, bituminous coal having a net calorific value of 7500 thermal units and lignite having a calorific value of, for example, 2000 thermal units, is very suitable for operating optimised fluidised-bed furnaces from economic viewpoints.
