Device for securing a side-tracked train which is coupled on the entry side to a locomotive on an inclined track of the set of reception sidings of a shunting yard with a holding device which engages on the last waggon on the exit side of the train. The holding device is designed as a buffer block which can be moved on the inclined track between a basic position and a working range and has buffer block arms which can be lowered in a profile-free fashion, the said buffer block arms being countersunk in the basic position and being extended in the working range. The buffer block is connected to a pulling drive means which is led via a power-output station with an electric drive motor and can be moved against the side-tracked train. The drive station has a holding brake which is controlled and can be applied by the power consumption of the electric drive motor when the buffer block arms engage on the last waggon of the train and take up the load. <IMAGE>
