The invention relates to a palletising machine for heavy, filled, non-circular containers which are closed by means of a lid, e.g. buckets, with a collecting conveyor for feeding the containers to the palletising point, a lifting device arranged inside a stacking chute for feeding an empty pallet to the palletising point and for lowering the pallet in stages in accordance with the layers of containers placed on it and a conveying device for the full pallets, and is characterised by a transport device used for feeding the containers, a conveyor belt section which is intermittently drivable and is inserted between the collecting conveyor and the transport device, a rotating station inserted between the collecting conveyor and the conveyor belt section and a vacuum plate which can reciprocate between the stacking chute and the collecting conveyor and which is designed as a lifting device and can accept the containers positioned on the collecting conveyor and feed them to the pallet arranged in the stacking chute.
