PURPOSE:To modify the surface of a base made of a polymeric material, by forming a desired graft-polymerized layer on this surface by subjecting the surface to glow discharge and contacting it with a liquid monomer subjected to glow discharge. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a base made of a polymeric material is subjected to glow discharge by applying a high-frequency voltage thereto in a vacuum of about 0.01 - several Torr. Separately, a desired liquid monomer (or a solution of a monomer) is placed in a sealed container and, after evacuation, it is subjected to glow discharge and immediately brought into contact with the glow discharge-treated base under exclusion of oxygen to form a graft-polymerized layer comprising the above monomer on the base.
