By means of a toner powder comprising crystalline polyester resin having a melting point between 50 and 100 DEG C, a powder image is formed on a medium whose surface consists of a material having a lower affinity for the softened toner powder than an image receiving material. The powder image is transferred to the image receiving material by pressing the image receiving material against the image bearing medium. Before and/or during the pressure contact between the medium and the image receiving material, the powder image is softened by heat.
