PURPOSE:To prevent change of reset potential of a photo-detector according to field by equalizing voltage condition of plural transfer electrodes that do not contribute to transfer to a vertical register out of transfer electrodes in the periphery of the photo-detector at the time of completion of transfer. CONSTITUTION:In a reading period (a), transfer electrodes P1 and P3 that contribute to reading receive high voltage Vh, and transfer electrodes P2 and P4 receive low voltage Vl. At the time of completion of reading, electrodes P2 and P4 receive the same voltage Vl, and accordingly, keep the state of separation from areas M1 and M3. In the middle of a period (b), one of electrodes P2 and P4 rises to intermediate voltage Vm, read out signal charges of areas M1, M3 are mixed. In a period (c), signals are transferred by four-phase driving system. Transfer for sweeping out after receiving light is made by above-mentioned system. By this driving method, transfer electrodes P2 and P4 that do not contribute to reading at the time of completion of reading become the same voltage Vl.
