PURPOSE:To allow collation with high reliability and at high speed by using a device which forms the optimum coordinate conformance amount from position dislocation and angle dislocation of paired candidate characteristic points to fit the reference coordinate system of each search and file fingerprint. CONSTITUTION:A collation data control processor 2 gives position information in a data storage device 3 of the search fingerprint and the file fingerprint which become collation objects to a collation controller 4. Collators 5-8 execute collation of one finger of the searched fingerprint in parallel with respective different file fingerprints, and calculate the collated value. The collation data control processor 2 edits the collated results and outputs them. In a coordinate conformance amount decision circuit 217 inside the collator, the coordinate system of the search fingerprint characteristic point is rotated around with a unit of the specific microangle, differential plane weighed map formation processing and weighed concentrated position search processing which corresponds thereto are executed in every specified angular range, and the optimum coordinate conformance amount is decided.
