<p>The cpds. are of formula (I), in which R1 and R2 are H, halogen, alkyl, aralkyl, aryl, hydroxyl or other radicals, R3 is H, halogen, alkyl, aryl or certain hetero-atom gps., R4 and R5 are alkyl, aralkyl, aryl or cyclic gps.. - They are made by reaction between omega-halomethyl phenyl ketones with a substd. cpd. derived from salicylaldehyde, in equimolar proportions. The solvent is alcohol or 1,4-dioxan together with an alkali hydroxide in equimolar amts. and the reaction is under reflux for 1-4 h.. The prod. is purified by recrystallising.</p> |
