PURPOSE:To obtain a disc having excellent wear resistance by subjecting an Al base plate to electroless plating of Ni-P as an underlying layer, forming a magnetic plating layer on the underlying layer and providing a composite protective layer incorporated with Al2O3, etc. therein by electroless plating on the magnetic plating layer. CONSTITUTION:An underlying layer 2 subjected to Ni-P plating and a thin magnetic film 3 are successively provided on the surface of an Al base plate 1 for a magnetic disc and thereafter a protective layer 6 having high hardness is formed to <=0.1mu thickness on the film 3 by forming an electroless plating layer of Ni-P incorporated therein with about 0.05mu pulverous particles of Al2O3 or pulverous particles of SiC, etc. A lubricating agent layer 5 may be further provided on the layer 6. Even if there is provided with nove of the layer 5, the wear resistance is good and the oxidation and corrosion of the thin magnetic film by adsorption of O2, etc. on air are prevented. The magnetic disc having excellent durability is thus obtd.
