PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium absorbing metallic salt of fatty acid or the like to it thin film surface and characterized by high corrosion resistance, travelling property and durability by nitrogenizing the surface of a magnetic metal thin film consisting of Co as a main component within a specific thickness range. CONSTITUTION:While winding a base film continuously around a winding roll 4 from a roll 2 through a drum 3, Co is evaporated from a Co evaporating source 6 heated by electron beams from an electron gun 5. Then, NH3 gas is blown upon the surface of the Co evaporation film through a nozzle 8 and a part exposed to the NH3 gas is heated by electromagnetic waves, e.g. an infrared-ray lamp 9, to form a Co nitride layer within 50-150Angstrom thickness range from the Co film surface. The infrared rays are condensed on the film 1 by a cylindrical reflecting palte. Subsequently, a lubricant solution such as Li salt of stearic acid and sulfurated fatti acid is applied to the surface of the nitride with about 200Angstrom thickness and dried to form an adsorbed lubricant layer. Thus, the magnetic recording medium characterized by high heat resistance, corrosion resistance, travelling property and durability is obtained. |
