The marker is intended for placing in the ground to indicate the location of an underground cable branch point, hydrant, gas line connection etc. or as roadside marker. It comprises a field above ground level which is provided with at least 1 recessed portion to receive a marking symbol fixed to it. The symbol is pref. arranged on the self-adhesive rear surface of a transparent plastic foil (e.g. of ''Lexan'') of the same size as a recess and slightly thinner than the depth of the recess.
