Prepn. of zeolite Y ion exchanger

The process consists of (a) exchanging Na(+) ions from an aq. soln. of NaY by rare earth cations at 15-100 deg.C for 10s. to 2h with liquid/solid ratio 1-80 g/g to obtain a 'Y'-exchanged zeolite; (b) filtering off and washing the zeolite; (c) drying at 110 deg.C for 1-24 hr; (d) calcining at 400-600 deg.C in an oven; (e) exchanging with an aq. soln. contg. NH4(+) ions to obtain a zeolite of formula (Y-TR-NH4(+)); (f) filtering off; (g) calcining at 400-600 deg.C for 1-5h; and (h) treating the zeolite in a current of satd. steam at 500-800 deg.C.
