PURPOSE:To simplify stages and to shorten development time by forming a recording layer of a mixture consisting of a recording substance and a substance which is decomposed by immobilized enzymes only in the presence of a recording material and a developer on a layer of immobilized enzymes whose activity is dependent on light. CONSTITUTION:The resulting recording medium stored in the dark is irradiated with light through a recording pattern from the side of the immobilized enzyme layer 5 in the dark. It is preferable that the activity of the enzyme can be controlled most properly under the light. A latent image is formed in the layer 5 by the difference in the activity of the enzyme between the irradiated and unirradiated parts. The recording medium having the formed latent image is put in a water tank contg. water as a developer. When the recording layer 3d contacts the water, the decomposition of starch in the layer 3 by the enzyme begins. Finally, copper phthalocyanine only in the unirradiated part remains and forms an image on the recording medium. The decomposition of starch is then stopped by drying to fix the image on the recording medium.
