PURPOSE:The titled remedy, containing a 3-phenyl-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one derivative as an active constituent, and capable of exhibiting inhibitory action on absorption of bones by direct action on the bones. CONSTITUTION:A remedy for osteoporosis containing a compound expressed by formula I (R<1> is H or OH; R<2> or R<3> is H or lower alkyl; Y is carboxyl or a group convertible into the carboxyl) as an active constituent. The compound expressed by formula I is obtained by reacting a hydroxy compound expressed by formula II with an alpha-halogenocarboxylic acid expressed by formula III (X is halogen) or a derivative thereof, and if necessary hydrolyzing the reaction product. The dose thereof is 10-500mg/day/man, and the dosage form thereof is a tablet, powder, granule, capsule, solution, etc. for oral administration and 1- 100mg/time injection, etc. for parenteral administration.
