PURPOSE:To obtain a copolymer which is a fine uniform particle and excels in fabrication properties and solubility in org. solvents, by a method wherein vinyl chloride is copolymerized with vinyl acetate in an aq. medium contg. a polyvalent amine cpd. and an ethylene oxide addition product of a styrene-maleic acid copolymer. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. of a monomer mixt. consisting of 60-95pts.wt. of vinyl chloride and 40-5pts.wt. of vinyl acetate is copolymerized in an aq. medium contg. (a) 0.01-5pts.wt. of an ethylene oxide addition product of a styrene-maleic acid copolymer and (b) 0.1-100ppm of a polyvalent amine cpd. by using an oil-soluble polymn. initiator. When the amount of the ethylene oxide addition product of the styrene-maleic acid copolymer is less than 0.01pt.wt., a copolymer having a coarse particle size is produced or blocks are formed. Even when the addition product is used in an amount of more than 5pts.wt., an additional effect can not be expected and the cost of production will be increased. |
