PURPOSE:To perform the ring-opening reaction of a bicyclo compound containing trioxabicyclooctane group, rapidly under mild condition, and to enable the use of the compound as a molding material, casting material, adhesive, etc., by using an acid halide as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A bicyclo compound having 2,6,7-trioxabicyclo[2,2,2]octane group (e.g. the compound of formula I ) is made to react in the presence of an acid halide (preferably a carboxylic acid halide such as the compound of formula II) preferably at 15-150 deg.C for several minutes - several hours to effect the ring- opening of the bicyclo compound. The amount of the acid halide group added to the reaction system is preferably 0.7-1.3 equivalent per 1 equivalent of 2,6,7- trioxabicyclo[2,2,2]octane group.
