PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound useful as a fungicide, miticide, etc., in high yield and purity, with simple process, by reacting a water-soluble salt of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole derivative with chloromethyl thiocyanate in binary phase system in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula II can be produced by reacting a water-soluble salt of formula I (R is H, halogen, alkyl, halogenoalkyl, carboxyl, lower alkoxy or nitro; n is 1 or 2; M is alkali metal or ammonium) with chloromethyl thiocyanate in the presence of water at 10-40 deg.C under stirring, adding 0.1-20wt%, preferably 1-10wt% (based on the chloromethyl thiocyanate) phase-transfer catalyst (e.g. quaternary phosphonium salt, quaternary ammonium salt, etc.) to the system. |
