PURPOSE:To simplify the structure by providing a U-shaped cover that can be opened and closed by turning the opening of a cassette body vertically by a pair of rotation pivots and a pair of fitting holes and providing a pair of projections positioned symmetrically separating from the rotation pivots and a flat spring that energizes it backward. CONSTITUTION:When a cover 4 is opened from closed state by turning it upward, a lower projection 12b advances forward resisting the force of a flat spring 11, and an upper projection 12a is separated from the flat spring 11. The lower projection 12b moves clockwise around the rotation pivot 6 and turns to the open position. At this time, the flat spring 11 rotates the projection 12b counterclockwise to return it to original position. Holding of the cover at the open position can be made by small force by bringing the position of the projection 12b at the open position of the cover near to the center line (l). Thus, a tape cassette of very simple constitution and which can be assembled easily is obtained.
