PURPOSE:To avoid troubles by releasing an engine from automatic stop and start to generate an alarm when abnormalities in various sensors and actuators needed for the automatic stop and start are detected. CONSTITUTION:An abnormality judging means judges whether or not a stop condition detecting means 27, a starting operation means 32, a running condition detecting means 21, an engine stopping means 41 and engine driving means 12, 40 are abnormal respectively, while releasing the engine from automatic stop and start to generate the abnormality signal when it judges at least one of these means is abnormal. An alarming means 42 generates an alarm on the basis of this abnormality signal so that it attracts attension of a driver while troubles accompanying the abnormalities in the automatic stop and start can be avoided.
