PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound useful as a raw material of an instantaneous adhesive and other chemicals, and also useful as a catalyst of various urethane foams, a paint stabilizer, etc. in the form of a polymer, by the thermal decomposition of a hexahydrotriazine compound. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula CH2=N-CH2-R (R is phenyl, alkyl-substituted phenyl or hydroxymethyl) can be produced by the thermal decomposition of a hexahydrotriazine compound of formula in the presence of a catalyst preferably comprising an organic or inorganic acid amine salt, quaternary ammonium salt or salt with a metal capable of holding 1-3-valent valency electron (e.g. benzylamine hydrochloride, copper chloride, etc.) at 100- 200 deg.C, preferably 100-160 deg.C. The amount of the catalyst is 1-100m-mol per 1mol of the hexahydrotriazine compound.
