PURPOSE:To enable favorable printing quality to be constantly obtained irrespective of the smoothness of a recording paper used, by a method wherein a means for applying a coating agent to a printing surface of a recording paper and a means for drying the coating agent are provided on the upstream side of a printing part. CONSTITUTION:The recording paper 11 is fed between coating rollers 13, 14 by a paper-supplying roller pair 10, and a coating agent 16 supplied from an impregnated member 15 is applied to recessed parts of the printing surface 11a of the paper 11, whereby the surface 11a is smoothened. Then, the agent 16 applied to the printing surface 11a is dried by a heating element 17, whereby the smoothness of the paper is enhanced, the paper 11 is fed between a platen 12 and a thermal transfer ribbon 21 by the platen 12 and a paper bail roller 19, and an ink a', b'... is transferred onto the paper 11 by the function of a heating element 22 of a thermal head 20. Accordingly, favorable printing quality can be constantly obtained irrespective of the smoothness of the paper used. |
