Device for ensuring the controlled start of documents along two transport channels 1, 2, comprising a means 3 for supporting the said documents which is constituted by two slideways 28, 29, parallel to each other, and a drive means 4 which can be brought into contact with the documents and constituted by a presser roller 5 mounted on a drive shaft 6 arranged between the two slideways, inclined with respect to the start direction and firmly attached to an arm 11 pivoting at its centre about a horizontal shaft 12 parallel to the slideways. The walls of the slideways facing the roller are pierced with a window 13, 14 in order to permit the penetration of the said roller into each slideway so as to press a document 17 against the internal surface of the wall which is furthest away from the roller. Clutch means 18 pivot the said arm and means 17 for locking the documents allow or prevent them to be introduced into one or other of the channels 1 and 2.
