PURPOSE:To obtain a resin composition having excellent stiffness, impact resistance, and tensile strength, suitable for containers, etc., by the high-speed mixing of polypropylene, polystyrene, and fine solid powders at temperatures above the melting points of both resins. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. resin mixture of 70-98wt% polypropylene and 30- 2wt% polystyrene, and 30-150pts.wt. fine solid powders (e.g., silica or alumina) are fed in a high-speed rotary mixer, and heated to a temperature above the melting points of both resins to mix at a high speed. As soon as porous agglomerates of partly fusion-bonded resin particles covered with fine solid powders are formed, the mixture is cooled to be solidified, and ground to give a resin composition. The composition is treated with an aqueous medium to build up and retain the medium thereon, followed by melt-molding to obtain the resin foams. |
