Special retention member (lining) for mounting lenses of spectacles and other optical instruments. The invention relates to a retention member (lining) made from silicone enabling all lenses to be mounted without risk of "splinters" in order to improve or protect the sight and lenses cut too small to be "saved". This retention member (lining) is provided with properties of elasticity, compressibility, resistance to chemical agents such as acids, urea, alcohol, ozone, acetone, solvents and strength at high and low temperatures, which make this a tool hitherto unknown. It is obtained by high-pressure extrusion in a die and is vulcanised in suspension in a tunnel and then annealed at 200 DEG C, which gives it its exceptional properties. This retention member (lining) is principally intended for opticians.
