Process intended to purify traces of gases such as O2, N2, CH4, CO, CO2, H2, H2O and hydrocarbons in the rare gases He, Ne, Xe, Kr, Ar, by the combined use of a zirconium titanium 11 absorbent active element placed in a thin-walled titanium tube 1, itself active and heated by the electrical flow of an intense current in its thickness. This pipe is placed in an enclosure 8 which can be evacuated or pressurised with the gas to be purified so that it is physically and thermally insulated from the air atmosphere. This process is particularly intended to remove nitrogen, oxygen and water vapour from argon to obtain a purified gas of concentration higher than 99.9999 %. <IMAGE>
