NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (m is 3 or 4; n is 1-5; A is -N= CH- or -CH=N-; X is H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, nitro, phenyl or azophenyl). USE:A selective absorbent of potassium salt and a component of a potassium-selective electrode. PREPARATION:The Schiff base-type benzocrown ether of formula I can be produced by reacting the formyl benzocrown ether of formula II with the aromatic amine of formula III. The compound of formula I is useful because of the excellent selective coordination capability to potassium salts. The reaction is carried out preferably in a solvent such as hexane, heptane, benzene, methylene chloride, etc. Addition of a slight amount of an acid catalyst such as boron trifluoride ethyl ether, etc. remarkably increases the rate of the reaction and is advantageous from the industrial point of view. |
