PURPOSE:To improve the large-current discharge characteristic of a button-type alkaline manganese battery by adjusting the concentration of an alkali contained in the positive mixture and the concentration of an alkali contained in the negative mixture to within proper ranges. CONSTITUTION:After 50mul of KOH electrolyte is poured into a positive can 1, a positive pellet formed by compressing and molding a positive mixture 2 composed of 90pts.wt. of manganese dioxide, 8pts.wt. of graphite and 2pts.wt. of polytetrafluoroethylene powder is placed in the positive can 1. Next, a cellophane sheet 3 and an electrolyte-holding member 4 such as a nonwoven fabric or a liquid-absorbing paper sheet is placed over the positive mixture 2. After that, a packing 5 having a U-shaped cross section is inserted into the positive can 1 before a negative mixture 6 composed of amalgamated zinc powder, carboxymethylcellulose and soda polyacrylate are packed. It was experimentally confirmed that a high capacity is achieved for a large-current electric discharge when the concentration of KOH contained in the positive mixture is within the range of 30-37wt% and the concentration of KOH contained in the negative mixture is within the range of 35-40wt%. |
