A method for removing liquid from a substance containing solid material and liquid or sludge, in which the substance is pressed between two screens which are guided between rotating pressing rollers as it passes through two linear bottlenecks formed between pressing rollers arranged opposite one another, and in which two bottlenecks are formed by the use of three rollers, two of which are fixedly mounted and one of which is subjected to contact pressure, the contact pressure being aligned in such a way that the pressure exerted on the substance at one bottleneck is greater than the pressure at the other bottleneck.
