PURPOSE:To obtain a microscopically uniform vertical magnetized film and to improve consequently the S/N in a high density recording region by constituting a magnetic recording medium having a two-layered medium structure so as to have no oxidized layer at the boundary between a thin ''Permalloy'' film and the vertical magnetized film. CONSTITUTION:''Permalloy'' can be added in addition to Ni-Fe and an Ni-Fe alloy contg. 80% Ni is representative but any alloy is usable as far as a high permeability layer is formed. The vertical magnetized film is selected from Co- Cr, Co-Ti, Co-Mn, Co-Mo, Co-V, Co-W, Co-Ru, Co-Cr-Rh, Co-Ni-Cr, etc. Either of a vapor deposition method using an electron beam or sputtering method is preferable as the process for producing the thin ''Permalloy'' film. The process for producing the vertical magnetic film is selected from a vapor deposition method using an electron beam, sputtering method, ion plating method, electroless plating method, etc. The magnetic recording medium produced by such method has no oxidized layer at the boundary between the thin ''Permalloy'' film 3 and the vertical magnetized film 4.
