Due to the pressure difference, tennis balls stored in the atmosphere lose their internal pressure. If, in contrast, the balls are stored in the pressure container according to the invention, the pressure difference is eliminated by producing a superatmospheric pressure. The invention is thus a container, preferably made of plastic, in which a superatmospheric pressure can be produced without additional aids, such as an air pump or compressor. When the tennis balls have been placed in the lower part (1), the lid (2) used as a piston is pulled axially downwards over a sealing ring (4) with the aid of a mechanism (3). Due to the stroke movement of the lid (2), the volume is reduced from VI to VII, and the internal pressure of the container thus rises analogously from pI to pII. Due to the design and calculation of the two volumes, a particular superatmospheric pressure can thus be produced which corresponds approximately to the internal pressure of a ball. If, for particular reasons, the container pressure pII (Figure II) specified in the design is to be increased further in an existing container (e.g. for other types of balls), the initial volume VI can be reduced with the aid of correspondingly dimensioned inserts, as illustrated in Figure III, in such a way that the desired increased internal pressure pIII with the associated volume VIII is obtained after the enclosed air has been compressed. This internal pressure is thus ... Original abstract incomplete. <IMAGE>
