Apparatus for regulating a welding process

In order to regulate welding processes an apparatus is proposed that comprises a sensor rod (24) containing an almost transparent polymer to which fluorescent particles are added, which rod is arranged underneath the weld seam (12) in order to collect the radiation (16) emitted from the melt zone and to transmit it by total reflection to a photosensor (18). The welding current intensity is regulated, as a function of the penetration depth, using the measurements of the photosensor and via a regulator (20). The sensor rod is rigidly mounted and is shaped corresponding to the geometry of the weld seam. <IMAGE>
