PURPOSE:To increase both vibration damping force and centering force to realize high speed rotation, by providing such an arrangement that stationary rings facing the teeth of a rotor are diametrically shifted within the tooth width so that magnetic flux is distributed over hang-over sections of a nonmagnetic conductive member and as well between the teeth. CONSTITUTION:Inner and outer stationary rings 4'', 5'' opposed to teeth 2a, 2b having tooth widths t1, t2 to establish D2>D''1, D4>D''3. Accordingly, magnetic flux is distributed between the teeth of the stationary rings and the rotor, and as well over hang-over sections 3a through 3c in a nonmagnetic conductive member 3. Therefore, eddy current becomes large, resulting in an increase in vibration damping force. Further, the staionary rings are not shifted more than the tooth widths t1, t2 so that magnetic flux between the rotor teeth 2a, 2b and the stationary rings 4'', 5'' is also large, thereby a large centering force may be obtained. With this arrangement both vibration damping force and centering force may be made large, and therefore, a magnetic bearing suitable for high speed rotation may be obtained. |
