PURPOSE:To prevent the damage of a support for supporting a continuously traveling metallic web by separately surface-treating the central and edge parts of the web. CONSTITUTION:A slurry 4 is sprayed on the surface of a continuously traveling metallic web 1 to treat the surface. At this time, the amount of the slurry 4 sprayed to treat the edge parts is made smaller than the amount of the slurry 4 sprayed to treat the central part, and the central and edge parts are separately treated. By this method the damage of a support 6 for supporting the web 1 is prevented.
