PURPOSE:To generate suitable information and to simplify maintenance and handling of the information by converting an image signal and a picture signal into the same signal type so as to record them in the same recording medium with high resolution. CONSTITUTION:In order to record an image signal of an image pickup device 1 in a VTR80, the control of a main control circuit 40 switches a changeover switch 20 to an A/D convertor 11 side, and an image signal is digitized by the A/D convertor 11 and introduced to a picture memory 30. The read-out signal is converted into the signal type suitable to the VTR80 in the 2nd convertor circuit 70, and recorded in a video tape of the VTR80. When a picture signal is recorded in this tape continuously, control of the main control circuit 40 switches the switch 20 to a S/P convertor 12 side. A picture signal of reading-out scanner 2 is led to the S/P convertor 12. At this time, the S/P convertor 12 converts the picture signal into the same signal type of an output signal of an A/D convertor 10, and the converted signal is recorded in the VTR80. When this tape is reproduced, it is reproduced on a monitor 3 and printer 4.
